General Mobile DSTL1
Yeah, that’s right. My General Mobile DSTL1 finally arrived today. I’m still playing around with it, getting the lay of its dual-SIM land, but so far I’m pretty pleased with it.
For now, until I get time to put together some more in-depth videos of the device, here’s a simple unboxing and initial startup of the DSTL1, so you can get an idea of what to expect.

How easy/hard are the buttons to find when not backlit ? Also, did you say the menu button is the DPAD down button ? Looking forward to more..

Yeah, the d-pad center button is the menu button. I thought that was going to be a real issue, but turns out I haven’t been bothered at all. Even though I have always liked having a d-pad or trackball on Android devices, I never really use them. As such, the d-pad button works for me since I don’t really use the d-pad except for the very rare cursor moving in a text field. And that doesn’t require the button, either. So it seems to work out.
The dual-SIM stuff is pretty neat. Have it working on AT&T and T-Mobile and WiFi for data. Can only have one SIM designated for data, but it works. Just wish this version had 850MHz GSM support…
Interesting, didn’t know there were any resistive Android devices. How is it to type on?

Not sure if that version supports the 850MHz band used in much of the U.S. though, so be warned.
As to the hardware buttons, I don’t find finding them to be an issue. The d-pad is very obvious, and the buttons around it can be found because of that. Back is upper right of the d-pad, end call is lower right, etc. Seems to work fine.
Typing is pretty good in general. Resistive screens are better for accuracy, so that helps. The portrait-mode keyboard is a bit small, but the landscape version works well. You can enable clicks and vibration feedback, too.
