Archos 5

In an unfortunate turn of events for Archos, leaked pictures, details and pricings of the imminent Android tablet have spread all over the internet prior to the official September 15th events date.

Thanks to ArchosFans, we have screen captures of the pricing for four different device models, including a $294 for 16GB SSD, $370 for 32GB SSD, $320 for 160GB HDD, and $420 for a 500GB HDD. There is even the rumour that HD video will be supported. As to be expected, there is still a lot of speculation over at the originating website as to the legitimacy of the images and so forth, but it looks good to our eyes.

The primary downside to this news is the price. These days, a phone will do much of what an internet tablet does, although admittedly the screen size of the Archos does separate it somewhat. But still, it is a lot to pay for a device that shares many of the same functions with other electronic goods that are already out there and available for less. For example, the forthcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 really does offer good screen real-estate.
