Good news everyone. Shantanu Naraye, CEO of Adobe, recently announced during Adobe’s ‘earnings call’ with investors that they will release a beta version of Flash Player 10 (FP10) for smartphones. The release will come during October at Adobe MAX 2009. We knew this was coming but now we have a set date and confirmation.
“We are bringing Flash Player 10 to smartphone class devices to enable the latest web browsing experience. Multiple partners have already received early version of this release and we expect to release a beta version for developers at our Max conference in October. Google’s Android, Nokia’s Symbian OS, Windows Mobile and the new Palm Web OS will be the first devices to support web browsing with the new Flash player…”
Flash for Android is one of our most debated and hot topics. It has been a while but now it would seem that things are certainly coming to fruition. Furthermore, it looks as though Adobe are keeping to their roadmap. Soon developers will let lose their ActionScripts3 potential and make the full use of FP10. I use Flash a lot in my day to day activities, but Flex is something I haven’t embarked on yet. Flex is a Flash based software development kit released by Adobe Systems for the development and deployment of cross-platform rich Internet applications. Flex and Android could work wonders, so lots to look forward to!
However, if you literally cannot bare to wait any long, you may find solace in a short article here which hints at getting a baked version of Flash and Skype running on Android sooner rather than later.
